IN 2010 First Communion classes will be combined with Fall Baptism and Confirmation Classes and will start on Sunday, September 12th. 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Rector's home. Confirmation, Baptism, and First Communion will be celebrated on December 5th, 2010 when our Bishop visits the parish.

Below is the class schedule followed by the reading list. Candidates for Baptism (and their parents and godparents), as well as Candidates for First Communion, and Confirmation are asked to:

1. Attend all the classes or do the make up classes.

2. Follow a daily reading from the bible that will be handed out.

3. Do the homework passages prior to the next class.

4. A schedule of make-up classes will be given out the first week of class.

A note from Paul Frey, the Rector...

"In the Episcopal Church, anyone who has been baptized is welcome to receive communion and the classes are not required. However, this is a parental decision. My own theological position is that children should be permitted to receive as soon as they reach out to receive.

But I do think that learning some of the basics of the faith, learning reverence for the sacrament, and gaining a deeper understanding of the Eucharist (communion) is a good thing. So I encourage children who are receiving as well as those who are waiting to attend the classes. The ideal age is to be at least at second grade level, but exceptions will be made for children who can read at a rudimentary level.

Dressing and gifts  for the 1st Communion Ceremony are traditional for many of us. Nice dresses for young women, and dress shirts for boys are the traditional attire. White dresses and white shirts are traditional, but not necessary. (White is an ancient symbol reminding us of the purity we are given by Christ's forgiveness of our sins.)

Parents are welcome to use the traditional attire, or simply use the child's best clothes. Photographs may be taken during the presentation of the children and after the service. Gifts are always appropriate and may include age appropriate bibles, prayer books, crosses, medals, rosaries, and other items to remind the child of the love God has for them, and the love they hope to show to God.

Blessings to you and your children - Paul Frey"
